About the Masonic Villages Trust

The Masonic Villages Trust is one of the largest charitable aged-care providers in the southern North Island. However in the context of the whole aged care sector we are a relatively small player, with villages that are smaller than those provided by the large commercial operators.

This enables residents to maintain their individuality and for our managers and staff to be responsive to their individual needs.

Our facilities were established as a charitable work of the Freemasons, for the benefit of the whole community. They are open to all people of goodwill, regardless of race, religion or personal beliefs.

Residents enjoy the ‘village feel’ of our communities and benefit from the Trust’s non-profit, charitable ethic that sees any financial surpluses — along with donations and bequests — invested in facilities and services that benefit residents.

The Trust provides for retirees with a wide range of interests, lifestyles and budgets.

In Lower Hutt, Masterton, Palmerston and Levin our villages provide rest home and hospital-level care, as well as quality retirement offerings. In Foxton and at our six villages in Taranaki we have retirement-only communities. Also, unlike most other retirement village operators, we offer quality rental units at our Levin, Foxton and Masterton villages.

By providing quality alternatives to the large facilities offered by commercial operators, the Trust fills an important role in the community.

We are proud to be the first choice for many people wishing to live in a retirement community or needing a rest home, hospital or other aged care services. To ensure we continue to be successful in this, we are committed to financial rigour, innovation and constant improvement in all that we do.

Membership of The Masonic Villages Trust is a positive way to support the older people in our communities. You may also like to make a donation to the Trust.

Growing the Trust

In July 2014, the Manawatu Masonic Association Trust (MMAT) and The Masonic Villages Trust merged their operations under the banner of The Masonic Villages Trust. This allowed overhead costs and specialist skills to be shared across a wider base.

In April 2017, The Masonic Villages Trust merged with the Taranaki Masonic Trust, further strengthening the financial position and resilience of the combined Trust.

The Trust currently has major developments underway at its existing villages in Lower Hutt, Levin and New Plymouth. It is also exploring the possible development of new villages in towns where there is strong community support for its offerings.

The charitable ethic of Freemasonry underpins everything we do
It’s not just about the money for Freemasons … they’re not focussed on profits like other providers. The caring spirit of Freemasonry is evident everywhere … the Village is just lovely.
