Why Masonic?

Putting our people first. Always.

‘Our community. Our family. Our compassion’. Those are the three tenets driving Freemasonry in New Zealand today. And they are the three areas driving everything we do for our residents, whether they be in one of our retirement villages or our care facilities.

We are not a major corporate or a large multinational brand. At heart we are a charitable organisation and we’re here to provide support to those who need it.

We started life over 60 years ago wanting to contribute to our communities and that’s still our focus today.

We put the needs of our people first. Always.

The choice is yours

Our villages offer a mix of rental accommodation and Occupation Right Agreement units (ORA). An occupation right agreement gives a person the right to occupy a unit in a retirement village, and sets out the relevant terms and conditions.

Attention is on you

Any surpluses we make are reinvested in our villages. We don’t have to satisfy shareholders so all of our attention is focused on you.

Unbeatable service

You’ll be pleased to know that our residents hardly ever have to pay to fix things that need repairing around their accommodation, and the service they receive from village staff is geared very much to reflect the Trust’s charitable ethos.

A unique history

The Masonic Villages Trust is a leading charitable aged care provider founded in 1960 by the Freemasons for the benefit of all.

Each of The Trust’s Villages was founded by and for its local community, in most cases by local Freemasons’ Lodges. Initial funding came from the local lodge, charitable donations from individual Freemasons, their families and the wider community, together with government grants. Site development often involved the voluntary efforts of lodge members.
